Montevideo is the only terminal in South America operating under a “Free Port” regime, according to law 16.246 which establishes:
- Free movement of goods without the need of authorization or formal procedures.
- Total exemption from fees, taxes and/or surcharges applicable to import, export and transit.
In every case, without previous procedure, the Client may change the initial destination set for the stored goods, totally or partially re-shipping the goods abroad and importing a part or all into Uruguay.
Goods do not undergo residence time limitations in Rilcomar. “In transit” storage is exempt from all internal taxes directed to foreign firms. If the origin of stored goods is MERCOSUR (zero tariff), they keep their condition since they are in transit within the Port of Montevideo.
